90's trends

this makes me a little sad to report. in my 90's trends research i've come across some sad sad information. ladies, please find the fashion trends that didn't survive the 90's...
Stephanie Tanner scrunchies
pager on pants pagers on pants (probably because pagers died out when cellphones became awesome. and by awesome i mean you can't play snake on your pager.)
Nick and Aaron Carter bowl cuts. oh middle school crushes.
N Sync overalls overalls.
Blossom hat blossom hats. oh blossom. i love you.
Lisa Frank pencils lisa frank.
Jennifer Aniston hair the rachel.
stirrup pants stirrup pants.
slap bracelets slap bracelets.
walkman discman headphones.

some of the items on this list i chose not to report because saying it out loud is just too hard to bare... if you must know, you can see for yourself by following this link. but i must warn you, your life will never be the same.

90's tv

getting you ready. how come 90's tv was so much better than it is now? now we have reality tv lighting up the night, competition shows, and a variety of randomness. (this comes from a girl who refuses to pay for cable so her interpretation of the world comes from all that is hulu.)
remember these?

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
seinfeld (1990-1998)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–1996)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
Friends (1994–2004)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
Boy Meets World (1993–2000)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
Full House (1987–1995)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
Hangin' with Mr. Cooper (1992–1997)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
Blossom (1990–1995)

The Best 90s Sitcoms As Told Through Gifs
3rd Rock from the Sun (1996–2001)

i'm realizing now maybe i spent too much time watching tv growing up. but seriously. this was the good stuff. i'm not even including tool time, fraiser, dinosaurs, family matters, roseanne, saved by the bell, murphy brown, mad about you, the nanny, sabrina! (feel free to add in your own guilty pleasures) i'd say this list rocks everything we have out there now. no wonder why more people are on netflix instead of cable...

you're about as causal as a tidal wave

sometimes my boss throws me great one liners. this one was given to me as i snuck into his office wearing an outfit very similar to this:

(only in my world, boots are still required. and scarves. and my accessories are not quite as fabulous.)

in a town like mine, you wear this kinda outfit you are bound to stand out. challenge accepted.

seriously in love with this shirt.

as we're one day away from the beginning of spring and yet getting dumped on by 8- 16" more white stuff i'm living in my dream land where it's warm and i'm not wearing 18 layers of clothing inside just to stay a little bit warm..

spine

here i am just scrolling through my google reader (trying to read all my backlog before july ... i know i have time. but this switch is going to kill me. i'm so upset.)
then
bam
i see this picture:
DLEE IWP BOOK LR 14 Dion Lees Sculpted Outing for International Woolmark Competition
and instantly i'm like this is why i love fashion. how amazing. how interesting. how inventive. not only is the product to die for but the artistic approach of the photograph. the way it's backlit. (haha backlit... no pun ok pun maybe pun) it's just cool. people have some pretty awesome minds.

8:15 am

today i woke up at 8:15. i was having a dream that i couldn't get out of... they were cutting down all the trees around my parents house and i was not ok with it.

in my dream. in real life i wouldn't be ok with it either. but in real life i don't think my parents (mom) would allow it to happen. that wasn't even the worst part. but i'll spare you the gory details. (wedding, mess, parents bed, craziness. blah. no good.)

anyhow, so my morning started with one of these:

who are we kidding it was really more like this:

and then i went into sumo mode. thankfully, erik has trained me well.

step one: bathroom. obviously. figure out how bad hair looks, brush teeth, pee, mascara.
step two: make a mess in the kitchen while making coffee. throw things. every where. decide having less than 15 minutes to get ready is an ok excuse for not putting anything away. (also remember that it's tuesday so bosses should be at office early. need to beat them there so they don't think you are habitually (you are) late.)
step three: back the bathroom to attempt to do something to hair. realize it's a lost cause. on to clothing.
step four: try to find clothing. hate all clothing. remember that you're running late and it doesn't matter clothing needs to be on body. clothe body.
step five: back to bathroom. hair attempt part three. no use. realize shirt is on backwards. decide you have time to turn shirt around.
step six: lose purse. where on earth did i leave that thing?
step seven: find purse. kiss husband. throw on coat. run out door.
step eight: come back and grab massive cup of coffee and try not to spill it as you run to your car.
step nine: realize you are at your car earlier than you normally would be. congrats. maybe you should be late more often.
step ten: get to office. no one is there to congratulate you on being super fast. like world record fast. become sad. decide to write blog post so someone can appreciate your speed.

and by insanity i mean... work.

em jae

i may be biased but seriously,

my little name-sake is the cutest baby duck face ever, right?

pseudo spring break

dear friends,

a couple of days ago, i read this blog post by bethany from b-soup.

in which she discusses the fact that she took this picture not in the warmth which it possesses but in 34* temps. now, i love bethany. she inspires me to wear my pom-poms proud but seriously girl?! (love you!) you don't know cold. if in 34* weather you are still able to even think about sandals, it's not that bad. and (as the wind howls outside my office - howls. rips through your soul.) she has the nerve to discuss her lack of tan. here in new hampshire, i'm pretty sure we're all transparent. unfortunately, this is not an exaggeration.

break up letter to forever 21

i'm getting to the point in my life where i'm choosing quality over quanity. unfortunately for me this means my love affair with forever 21 may have to be put on hold.

which brings me to a serious question: where do adults shop? unfortunately living in the middle of no where means limited acutal shopping gets done around here. and my limited actual shopping i mean limited time in stores. there's excessive online shopping. excessive. but i'm finding the websites i normally turn to aren't exactly meeting my needs. i'm 27 years old. i can't dress like a 15 year old anymore. it's just creepy. and seriously, forever maybe if you rethink what you believe a good length of a dress is - we can talk. i'm not about to show everyone my lady parts just to be fashionable.

while i appreciate your attempt to rekindle our relationship with shoving love21 in my face - i'm still not happy with your attitude and lack of lady part covering options.

what self respecting woman is going to be able to wear this to a professional setting?

this is not a true covering. fake long is not long. and that inner covering is much too short for ladies with a kadunk. (unfortunately i love this dress.)
but who wants to wear a skirt this tiny? isn't the whole purpose of buying a dress this length so you can have a dress this length and not have to worry about the under parts??

unfortunately, my new found maturity did not come along with a increased bank account. so for the transitional period this is going to be tight. I WANT NEW CLOTHES! but i don't want to spend money. but I WANT NEW CLOTHES. but i want quality clothing. why do i always have this argument with myself?

who am i kidding, forever 21 and i will never break up.

dinner

Sunday Night Stew with Mashed Potatoes. Nothing better in the world.
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2013/01/sunday-night-stew/
having this for dinner tonight. made it last night. totally misread the part where it's supposed to cook for 3+ hours. awesome. stew stewing. anyhow, adlibbed a bit. didn't make as many potatoes as i was supposed to/played with that recipe a lot. plus i threw my carrots and turnips in after only stewing for 45 minutes. (seriously. it would have been 9 pm. a girl's gotta eat.) still... quite delicious.

what are you doing today?

today i am:

  • making lists because they're fun.
  • dream shopping for j brand jeans, bikinis and midi skirts.
  • staring at my piles of work.
  • being overwhelmingly bored.
  • drinking coffee.
  • reading blogs.
  • making an effort to stretch.
  • contemplating how to send my brother his poster and $40 worth of girl scout cookies.
  • looking forward to spring.
  • wondering how my date with an old friend is going to go.
  • missing my cousin.
  • dealing with annoying people. stop calling. do not stop in. run away!
  • should be preparing for the meeting.
  • thankful i made stew last night so i don't have to cook tonight.
  • should probably eat that salad i made...
  • wondering how i can buy new clothes and still pay my bills.
  • wishing it would warm up so i didn't have to wear tights anymore.
  • excited that erik's excited about sapping.
  • wishing today would go by as fast as yesterday did.
  • happy heidi stopped by last night.
  • oranges.
